VXI (VME EXtensions for Instrumentation) A peripheral bus specialized for data acquisition and real time control systems. Introduced in 1987, VXI uses all Eurocard form factors and adds trigger lines, a local bus and other functions suited for measurement applications.  Corporation's Voice It Division today started shipping its new Voice It(R) Digital Transcription System that makes creating and utilizing digital voice dictation recordings faster, easier, and more economical. It is specifically designed to address the transcription marketplace that includes legal, medical, sales, law enforcement, realty, and many other industries. The Voice It(R) Digital Transcription System is the third in a series of new product announcements to be made by VXI Corporation this year.

"The Voice It(R) Digital Transcription System emulates traditional tape-based transcription systems with marked advantages. Instead of microcassette tapes, the recorder uses SmartMedia(TM) removable memory cards that can be passed to a Transcriptionist, or the files can be electronically transferred by e-mail or other means. The voice files can be downloaded to the PC via the 3.5-inch floppy drive See floppy disk.

The Voice It(R) Digital Transcription System comprises three modules that can be combined to meet specific customer needs. In addition the system, when combined with our Software Development Kit tools can offer unlimited solutions to developers and end-users desiring integration of the Voice It(R) recorder into their products and businesses for transcription, electronic form-filling and other solutions.

Dictation Module: The Voice It(R) Mobile Digital Recorder with Voice It Link software. This hand-held recorder offers full-featured mobile recording and playback functions. The recorder produces highly compressed digital audio files that can be downloaded directly to a PC.

Voice File Transfer Module: The FlashPath(TM) floppy disk adapter and two 8MB SmartMedia(TM) memory cards, each holding up to 2.5 hours of dictation. Voice files recorded on 2MB, 4MB, or 8MB SmartMedia cards can be downloaded to the PC via the 3.5-inch floppy drive using the FlashPath(TM) floppy disk adapter.

Transcription Module: The foot pedal and headset that work with Voice It software to control and listen to the voice file playback. Playback functions include play, pause, fast and slow play, skip backward and forward Adv. 1. backward and forward - moving from one place to another and back again; "he traveled back and forth between Los Angeles and New York"; "the treetops whipped to and fro in a frightening manner"; "the old man just sat on the porch and rocked back and forth all , and index mark search. The voice files can be transcribed manually using any word processing word processing, use of a computer program or a dedicated hardware and software package to write, edit, format, and print a document. Text is most commonly entered using a keyboard similar to a typewriter's, although handwritten input (see pen-based computer) and  program or automatically with voice-to-text software.
