VULCAN LAUNCHES "LITE EQUIPMENT NEWS;" TO START "ISOURCE" IN AUGUST.

Vulcan Publications (Birmingham, AL) will begin the publication of iSource Business with an issue in August. Designed to cover the "revolution" in b2b procurement, the new title will have a mixed paid (20,000) and controlled (80,000) circulation of 100,000.

Taglined "online procurement solutions," the magazine is being targeted to materials purchasing and supply managers, buyers and purchasing agents, directors of purchasing materials and related management executives in the manufacturing, transportation, government and service sectors. Vulcan said the title is being launched because "business demands a new resource that informs and educates" executives on e-procurement.

To be published monthly, the magazine will focus exclusively on Internet-based e-commerce and e-procurement with an emphasis on technology strategies from both the practitioner and supplier side. Vulcan said it will cover "every type of e-procurement model and strategy," including internally-developed, supplier-developed, online or digital marketplace and online auction models. Within those models, editorial will cover developments and impovements in supply chain management strategies, case studies, business in the new economy, and converting to b2b e-procurement.

Initial issues will include articles on the buyer-seller relationship, maximizing technology for real-time negotiation and arbitrage, supplier- and buyer-managed s-systems, online auctions, and an overview of e-procurement and its anticipated effects on the economy.

Also, the company has begun the publication of Lite Equipment News, a monthly magazine with a controlled circulation of 30,000 equipment buyers in the U.S. Designed to be a source to help buyers learn more about equipment, the new title offers current information on a wide variety of equipment, including rollers, backhoes, trenchers, compact machinery, washers, pumps, generators and compressors.

Besides equipment information, editorial addresses purchasing and leasing tips, training safety, technology, and maintenance issues.

Vulcan, which had 1999 revenue of $30 million, produces 20 magazine titles, half of which are consumer hunting/sport titles. The company's trade titles include Metalworking Equipment News, Heavy Equipment News and Transportation Equipment News.
