 RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
 BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Vulcan Chemicals' Wichita, Kan., plant has been selected to receive a Certificate of Environmental Achievement from Renew America, a national environmental organization based in Washington.
 Leaders of the nation's environmental community recognized Vulcan for its plan to make a 90 percent reduction in total plant emissions by 1995, based on 1988 baseline levels. Vulcan's emissions reduction plan was also cited by Renew America for its success in protecting the environment, while serving as a model for similar initiatives nationwide.
 "We are pleased to honor Vulcan Chemicals," said Tina Hobson, executive director for Renew America. "Vulcan's emissions reduction plan sets a positive example that can help other communities meet similar environmental challenges."
 Vulcan's emissions reduction plan will be listed in Renew America's 1992 Environmental Success Index, the most comprehensive guide to the nation's environmental programs. Updated annually with over 1,600 entries, the Index serves as a unique directory to the country's environmental solutions.
 Based in Washington, Renew America is a nonprofit organization committed to restoring the nation's communities through environmental action. Renew America's aim is to recognize and promote successful projects around the country that conserve, nurture and improve the environment. Environmental organizations that are members of Renew America's National Environmental Awards Council include Defenders of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the National Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation, the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club and the World Wildlife Fund.
