Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

HOLMDEL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2001

VPIsystems(TM), the developer of technical knowledge management systems for next-generation products and networks, today announced that it has retained Stephen Evangelides for its expanded optical software training program.

VPI VPI Voice Print International (Camarillo, CA)
VPI Virtual Path Identifier (used in Asynchronous Transfer Mode)
VPI Virginia Polytechnic Institute (aka Virginia Tech)
introduced its successful, worldwide training program in 1999 to accelerate the deployment of professional tools and work processes. The training sessions combine lectures from experts in design, planning and optimization principles and relevant problem domains, guided software demonstrations, and hands-on exercises using the latest VPI tools and productivity systems.

VPI is now introducing two-day training sessions that focus on Applications in Component, Subsystem and System Design, and Advanced WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber.  System Design. Evangelides will lead the advanced WDM design program.

As an expert in the modeling of long-haul transmission lines and undersea transmission line technology, Evangelides brings12 year's experience in experimental and numerical investigations into NRZ (Non-Return-to-Zero) A data transmission method in which the 0s and 1s are represented by different polarities, typically positive for 0 and negative for 1. See NRZI.

As it travels, the pulse is lengthened and then shortened back to its original size.  and dispersion managed transmission formats. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and spent three years as a post doctoral fellow at AT&T/Bell Laboratories.

"Over 700 engineers have completed VPI's software training program," said Casem Majd, vice president, U.S. Training and Services at VPI. "We have addressed the basics of the tools and are now expanding into specific areas of planning and design. VPI is pleased to have Stephen, a well-known industry expert at the helm to launch the expanded training program. "

"VPI is the only company in the optical modeling software field to offer advanced training," commented Evangelides. "The content of VPI's expanded program is unique. The customers learn to tap the full power of a very comprehensive tool, which will help them to produce better products."

The first advanced WDM program takes place on October 25, 2001 in Ottawa. For a complete training schedule, please visit www.VPIsystems.com.
