Middle Eastern music The music of the Middle Eastern and North Africa spans across a vast region, from Morocco to Iran, and it's influences can be felt even further afield. Middle Eastern music influenced (and has been influenced by) the to music of Greece and India music, as well as Central Asia,  deserves more play

We are lucky in Eugene to be able to satisfy a wide variety of musical tastes.

But there is a vacuum when it comes to Middle Eastern music with roots among Muslims and Jews of medieval times

That may sound limited in scope, but there are more than a few in our area who value those too-seldom heard sounds.

That is reflected by the popularity of a weekly program on KWAX, called ``Harmonia,'' on Thursdays at 6 p.m. It features music of the Baroque era Noun 1. Baroque era - the historic period from about 1600 until 1750 when the baroque style of art, architecture, and music flourished in Europe

 in the West and the East.

I'd urge clubs in Eugene and Springfield to give a hearing through a series of gigs for such musical groups.

KWAX and KLCC KLCC Kuala Lumpur City Centre (Malaysia) , the only logical radio venues for such a format, could build big audiences for what to many is a new sound, though its roots are old.
