Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  voters go to the polls today not only on statewide measures, but also to choose among local board candidates in the college district, a number of other school districts and a water district.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Aside from state issues, just two valleywide contests appear on the ballot: the race for two seats on the five-member board that runs College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  and the battle for three seats on the board of the William S. Hart Union High School District.

 for one seat on the college board; incumbent Joan Whaling McGregor is battling Ronald A. Vitale and Teresa Todd for the other open seat.

In the Hart district, incumbents Dennis King, Patricia Hanrion and Paul Strickland face candidates Steven Herskovitz, Danny Markovich, Joe Messina and Philip Ellis Jr. for the three at-large seats.

Three board seats also are open in the Newhall School District The Newhall School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Valencia and Newhall communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California, as well as the Stevenson Ranch community in unincorporated Los Angeles County. , where the candidates are incumbent Steven Tannehill and newcomers Steve Lunetta, Wendy JoAnne Zinn, Robert Jensen Jr. and J. Michael McGrath, son of the former superintendent of the same name.

Saugus Union School District The Saugus Union School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Saugus, Valencia, and Canyon Country communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California. As of March 25,2006, it has 15 elementary schools.  voters will choose three of the four candidates for open seats on the board. Incumbent Judy Umeck and Doug Bryce, Fred Tazartes and Paul De La Cerda are in the Saugus and North Valencia race.

Three seats also are up for grabs in the Castaic Union School District, where incumbent John Kunak and Robert Allen, Susan Christopher, Angela Marler, Laura Pearson and Steve Teeman are running.

In the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  race for three seats, appointed board member Maximino Duran and incumbent Fred Heslep are facing Ron Bird, Charles Brink, Geraldine Rose Davis, Mark Distaso, Michael Richard Hughes, Deborah Jauregui-Rocha, Larry Layton and Leona Ruth Sexton.

Also seeking re-election are three members of the five-seat board of the Newhall County Water District, a water retailer serving sections of Santa Clarita Valley. Incumbents Joan Dunn, Maria Gutzeit and Barbara Dore face challengers Ed Dunn, B.J. Atkins and Trish Lester.
