Byline: Fred J. Robledo Staff Writer

PASADENA - The San Jose Earthquakes
For the NASL/MISL/WSA club, see San Jose Earthquakes (NASL).
The San Jose Earthquakes, a professional soccer team located in San Jose, California, participated in Major League Soccer (MLS) from 1995 to 2005 and will resume play in 2008.
couldn't rattle anything or anyone Wednesday night. Especially not starting goalkeeper Kevin Hartman Kevin Eugene Hartman (born May 25 1974 in Athens, Ohio) is an American soccer player, who currently plays goalkeeper for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. He is known by some as "El Gato" (Spanish for "the Cat"). , who could have taken a nap in the first half.

But the Galaxy has found ways to miss a sure thing this season and they nearly did it again.

The Earthquakes, whose only previous shot came in the 74th minute, evened the match 1-1 on a penalty kick by Dario Brose Dario Brose (born January 27, 1970 in Brooklyn, N.Y.) is a soccer midfielder from the United States. After a five-year period as a coach, he recently came out of retirement and signed a contract with the Carolina RailHawks of the USL First Division.  in the 88th minute after Galaxy defender Danny Califf pulled down Wojtek Krakowiak in the penalty area.

However, substitute Sebastian Vorbe came to the rescue, scoring in the 93rd minute - three minutes into injury time - to help the Galaxy escape with a much-needed 2-1 victory in front of 11,974 at the Rose Bowl.

The victory moved the Galaxy (14-8-8, 50 points) into a share of the Western Division lead with Kansas City (14-7-8, 50 points), which was idle on Wednesday. The Wizards have three games remaining while the Galaxy has two.

``If anything, K.C. will look in the paper today and see that we're even,'' said Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid. ``I think anything can happen.''

It was not only a good night for Vorbe, but also Seth George. Both strikers are fighting for the starting spot that will be left by Sasha Victorine during the Olympics.

In his previous four starts and 11 appearances, George logged 252 minutes, but had more offsides off·side   also off·sides

Simon Elliott sent a pass right of San Jose's goal for Victorine. Victorine headed the ball down to George streaking in the penalty area. George wasted no time, sending a one-touch shot to the left corner for a 1-0 lead and his first goal and points of the season.
