VONS GIVES $35,000 TO BREAST CANCER.

, Vons employees saw the fruit of their labor Jan. 14 as they handed over $35,000 to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The funds earmarked for the Sheila Sheila is a common given name for a female, taken from the Gaelic name Síle/Sìle, which is believed to be a Gaelic form of Julia or Cecilia. Like "Cecil" or "Cecilia", the name means "Smart and Wise", from the Latin caecus.  R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center were collected by employees and customers of Vons Markets in Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. Darlene Mancinelli, a store supervisor and breast cancer survivor - now seven years cancer-free - was one of eight employees at the presentation. Mancinelli expressed thankfulness that her cancer was detected early and stressed the importance of regular mammograms.

The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center opened on the campus of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in December 2002.

``We know what we do is important, but it means so much to us to have confirmed that the community not only recognizes that importance but also is so willing to get directly involved,'' said Daniel Kirsch kirsch

Along with Kirsch, on hand to accept the check from Von's, was Greg Amsler, foundation chairman and Tom Veloz, whose wife bears the name of the center.
