VOLUNTEERS FROM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AND BANKATLANTIC
TO ROOF DANIA HOME ON SATURDAY, NOV. 7
Hurricane Andrew demonstrated that proper design, construction and workmanship of roofing components are essential to the survival of a home subjected to severe storm conditions. Habitat For Humanity homes in South Florida weathered Hurricane Andrew with minimal damage, even those in the hardest hit areas of Homestead.
Reporters and camera crews are invited to join volunteers from BankAtlantic and Habitat For Humanity on Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the site of a Habitat For Humanity home sponsored and built by BankAtlantic in Dania.
Roof trusses will be raised and properly joined to concrete tie- beams with steel straps. Roof sheathing will be installed next, followed by roofing paper nailed to the sheathing. At this point, the home will be "dried-in" and ready for interior finishing and installation of roof shingles.
The volunteer effort will take place at the corner of N.W. 3rd Street and N.W. 13th Court in Dania. To reach the site, refer to the instructions below. For further information, or for a map with directions, contact Phil Weinbach, 305-670-0411 or 305-670-9991.
DIRECTIONS: From I-95, exit at Stirling Road. Drive east to traffic signal at Bryan Road and turn left. Turn right at N.W. 1st Street. Drive east to N.W. 13th Avenue and turn left. Follow N.W. 13th Avenue to Habitat site at N.W. 3rd Street.
