New docents, having completed the nine-week training program, were awarded certificates of completion during the ceremony attended by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  and other county dignitaries.

In addition, 12 docents were awarded certificates for one year of service, four docents for two years of service, two docents for five years of service and one docent each for 15 and 20 years of service to the Nature Center.

Gordon Uppman was named Adult Volunteer of the Year for six years of service as docent chairman, his help setting up school tours of the Nature Center and for scheduling shifts for the docents.

Codi Fillmore, 12, was named Youth Volunteer of the Year for setting up a new computer system, which she built from scratch, and for other volunteer activities.

Volunteers and docents support the many programs at the Nature Center, including nature tours for grade-school children. Approximately 15,000 children participate in this program each year from across Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County.

The Holiday Craft Fair, always a favorite with visitors, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visitors to the park on those days can make holiday items, from candle holders to large wreaths, using all natural materials brought to the Nature Center for that purpose.

The Craft Fair will also feature crafts for children to make, and, of course, Santa will be there.
