VOLUNTEERING AS FAST AS SHE CAN.

Byline: - Jaime Spangrude

Christina Padilla, 18, is the founder of the International Ballet Folklorico in Glendale and national winner of the 2003 Kohl's Kids Who Care recognition program.

``I started the Ballet Folklorico after school for kids to do something with their time and to learn something about their culture and other cultures,'' said Padilla.

The Ballet Folklorico performs the traditional dances of Mexico, and Padilla's troupe at Horace Mann Elementary is well-known in Glendale. There are about 200 kids in the troupe, and they practice 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays from September through June.

``I try to always be there and try to help with everything,'' she said, ``whether it's teaching the kids a step, driving them to a performance, or even just supporting them.''

It was her leadership, initiative, creativity and generosity Generosity
