VOLLEYBALL: ARROYO GRANDE ENDS SEASON FOR HART.

Byline: Daily News

NEWHALL -- Hart of Newhall's Carolin Luppens' pass was a bit too far.

A stretched Luppens saved the volleyball from falling out-of-bounds but the ball fell out of the reach of teammates attempting to keep the play alive to avoid elimination and force a fifth game Thursday night.

Instead, visiting Arroyo Grande raked in the final point to end the Indians' Foothill League championship season and a run at a Southern Section title with a 25-23, 20-25, 28-26, 25-23 second-round Div. I-A playoff loss to the Eagles at Hart High.

``One thing they have to walk away from this is that they brought the school back to volleyball,'' Mary Krisan said, the Indians' first-year coach. ``No one cared about Hart volleyball. Most of the town probably forgot about it. It's not really how far we went in the playoffs but just what we did overall.''

The Indians shared the Foothill League title with Valencia, in a season where Hart was not mentioned among the favorites to contend for the title.

Unforced errors and sloppy passing contributed to Hart's inability to maintain leads and finish off runs Thursday night.

It didn't help that the Eagles' scrappy defense shut down the Indians' power hitting in the last two games despite Gazelle gazelle, name for the many species of delicate, graceful antelopes of the genus Gazella, inhabiting arid, open country. Most gazelles are found only in Africa, but several species range over N Africa and SW Asia; the Persian, or goitered, gazelle (  D'Artois and Caitlyn Ramirez combining for 34 kills. D'Artois finished with a team-high 20kills and Ramirez smacked down 14.

``There shouldn't be a loser in this match,'' Eagles coach Ernie Santa Cruz Santa Cruz, city, United States
