) has launched The Book Standard, a new subscription based web site covering the book industry. A subscription costs $9.95 per month.

The site is the first all-digital launch from VNU Business Media and is designed to be a "one-stop online information center" that provides Nielsen, BookScan-powered charts, book market analysis, industry news, reviews, commentary, job boards, and database resources.

Specifically, VNU said the site offers: daily commentary and insight into the book publishing book publishing. The term publishing means, in the broadest sense, making something publicly known. Usually it refers to the issuing of printed materials, such as books, magazines, periodicals, and the like.  and book selling industries; expert retail analysis of sales data and book-buying trends, including spotlights of major bookstores and e-commerce e-commerce, commerce conducted over the Internet, most often via the World Wide Web. E-commerce can apply to purchases made through the Web or to business-to-business activities such as inventory transfers.  retailers; industry database resources, including contact information for literary and film agents, publishers and publicists, and authors; status of current book-to-film projects; book reviews from VNU's Kirkus Reviews; European European

 market coverage, including news, UK bestseller charts and sales analysis; and, three e-newsletters, including Chart Alert with six weekly bestseller lists, Books-to-Film with deals coverage and industry profiles, and Retail Report, a weekly that carries information on trends and events affecting the retail industry.

In total, the new site will provide about 150 weekly bestseller charts. The site's book sales data comes from VNU's Nielsen BookScan, a retail sales monitoring service The general surveillance of known air traffic movements by reference to a radar scope presentation or other means, for the purpose of passing advisory information concerning conflicting traffic or providing navigational assistance.  for books with purchase information representing sales from more than 6000 locations.
