VLAD LIFTS ANGELS IN 11 HOME RUN LEADS TO WIN, BUT DEFICIT IN WEST STILL FIVE GAMES ANGELS 2, TEXAS 1 (11).

Byline: DOUG PADILLA Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985.  Staff Writer

According to a U.S Census Bureau release, as of July 1, 2006 Arlington has an estimated population of 367,197.  -- Brendan Donnelly Brendan Kevin Donnelly (b. July 4, 1971 in Washington, D.C.) is a Major League Baseball relief pitcher with the Boston Red Sox.

Donnelly had bounced around the minor leagues for 10 seasons after he was drafted in 1992 by the Chicago White Sox before he finally made his

blew his first save since July 29, Donnelly retired all six batters he faced, and a Vladimir Guerrero home run in the 11th inning gave the Angels a 2-1 victory.

It was the 600th career victory for manager Mike Scioscia, as he joined Joe Torre (New York Yankees Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism. ), Bruce Bochy (San Diego Padres), Tony LaRussa (St. Louis Cardinals For the National Football League team that played in St. Louis from 1960 to 1987, see .

In the end, all reason to celebrate was lost when the Oakland Athletics won again to keep their lead in the American League West The American League West is one of three divisions in Major League Baseball's American League. The Angels still have seven more games to play against the A's before the regular season ends.

Donnelly missed the previous four games after finally serving his suspension for hitting the Rangers' Freddy Guzman with a pitch in a game at Texas on Aug. 16. He looked fresh against the Rangers but needed some help from his defense.

Adam Kennedy caught a low line drive off the bat of Michael Young for the first out of the 11th inning and Mark Teixeira followed with a tricky popup.

Because the infield was shifted toward the right side, there was nobody to catch Teixeira's looper looper, name for caterpillars that move with a looping motion, including the inchworm and the cabbage looper.

Donnelly assumed Maicer Izturis would make the play, but because of the shift he was where the shortstop is usually positioned. Jose Molina ended up sprinting out from his catcher position to make a sliding catch halfway down the line.

Donnelly then got Carlos Lee on another line drive to second base to end it.

``I still haven't survived the popup,'' Donnelly said afterward. ``I'm sitting here still going through it. It was an amazing catch by Jose. The ball was hit and I just assumed he was out.''

The ninth inning should have taught him not to assume anything. Rodriguez, who had been automatic for more than a month, came on to protect a 1-0 lead.

After two easy strikeouts, he gave up a double to Carlos Lee. Hank Blalock followed with a double of his own to tie the score.

Rodriguez went 31 1/3 innings since giving up his last run, which came on July 29.

``Within four pitches they had tied the game,'' Scioscia said. ``I don't think it was a bad outing at all.

``Give those guys some credit. They have two pretty good hitters in the middle of that lineup, and they came through.''

The blown save, which was the fourth of the season for Rodriguez, prevented rookie Jered Weaver from winning his 12th game.

Weaver took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when Gary Matthews Jr. led off with a double to center over Chone Figgins' head. It was the only hit he allowed in seven innings. His nine strikeouts tied a career high.

``You always kind of know what's going on Verb 1. know what's going on - be well-informed
be on the ball, be with it, know the score, know what's what

know - know how to do or perform something; "She knows how to knit"; "Does your husband know how to cook?"
, but there was a lot of ballgame left,'' Weaver said when asked if he was aware of the no-hitter. ``With that lineup, anybody can hurt you. I wasn't worried about that, just keeping guys off base was my big thing.''

Weaver had to figure his 12th victory was a lock with Rodriguez on the mound.

``It's going to happen,'' Weaver said. ``He's human just like every closer out there is. He's going to bounce back from it. One run in a month is OK with me. He is who he is, and stuff like that will happen, but he'll be fine.''

Pitching has been the key for the Angels of late, evident in the fact they have averaged just three runs per game this month and are still 10-4.

After a scoreless 10th inning, Guerrero led off the 11th with a home run.

One night earlier, Guerrero had his 24-game hit streak at Ameriquest Field snapped.

``We held him in check for most of the last two nights, he just hurt us there at the end,'' Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. ``There is no way to pitch him. We've done a good job against him lately.''
