Visual Software, Washington Crossing, Pa., has introduced docLibrarian a web-based document and database management solution that lets users access documents, scanned images and other files and/or databases from remote locations.

docLibrarian can be widely applied by businesses and professionals and functions well as a virtual "file room" for organizations with multiple office locations. It is capable of storing virtually any type of document online (TIF, DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, DjVu, AutoCAD, etc.) and lets the user view all documents in their original format. Additionally, users can publish content from their PC or workstation and have it immediately searchable and viewable.

docLibrarian may be used to publish artwork, brochures and catalog information for worldwide access by a sales force or advertising agency. Documents such as medical and patient records can be accessed via docLibrarian in the event of an emergency. And, using docLibrarian, human resource departments can share job requisition, resumes or information about current employees, such as insurance enrollments or educational certificates.

Financial institutions can store documents online and share them with other entities in a controlled manner. Municipalities can keep track of resident documents and publish public information making it accessible without human intervention. Schools can store student records and bus route information for convenient access to those with a need to know.

docLibrarian features a robust search engine that does not require the user to know how a document, file or image is stored to find it. The engine can be configured for industry specific needs letting the user specify patterns or expressions.

A file attachment feature allows users to attach documents to pre-existing records in a database or group documents together for viewing. For example, a doctor could view a patient information record from a database at the same their medical images are displayed. An architect could view general information about a building and the corresponding supporting documents concurrently.

docLibrarian provides three levels of record and document security limiting access even if the original database was designed without limited access and/or security.

Visual Software's docLibrarian can be installed as Intranet, Extranet or Internet software, or as a pre-configured server that can be connected to a LAN. Application Service for companies can be configured for a 12-month service commitment with no up-front costs involved.
