VISIONWORKS OFFERS HURRICANE VICTIMS FREE EYEWEAR
CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Visionworks, a division of

Jack Eckerd Corporation, and selected eyewear suppliers are contributing 5,000 pairs of prescription eyeglasses to those affected by Hurricane Andrew. Individuals can receive free eyewear to replace eyeglasses lost or damaged in the hurricane.
Eyeglasses will be dispensed beginning Wednesday (9/2/92) at the Visionworks location in Town & Country Mall (Kendall Drive and SW 117th Avenue). The Visionworks closest to the devastated area of Dade County (Colonial Plaza at US1 and Howard) is projected to open Labor Day weekend pending storm damage being completed.
Two Eckerd drug stores in the affected area will also be used for dispensing. Both (9610 S.W. 160th St. and 909 Homestead Blvd.) were destroyed by the hurricane. Temporary stores are expected to be in operation at both sites by Labor Day. Each temporary location will have a dispensing table for those needing eyewear.
George Gebhardt, senior vice president of Visionworks, stated, "These efforts are consistent with our corporate philosophy. We must serve our communities during this crisis. In addition to taking care of our associates, we are doing our part for the people whose lives were so dramatically affected."
Eckerd operates 45 drug stores and 5 Visionworks locations in the Miami area. Statewide, Eckerd has 536 drug stores, 28 Visionworks and 17 optical centers. Nationally, the company operates 1,669 drug stores, 48 Visionworks and 34 optical centers.
