VISA GOLD REACHES 20 MILLION CARDS IN THE UNITED STATES
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 20 million Americans now carry a Visa Gold card, Visa U.S.A. announced today. This number represents a 48 percent increase over the same quarter in 1990. Worldwide, 27 million people use a Visa Gold/Premier card -- keeping Visa Gold in the number one position among all gold cards on both a national and international basis.
Today, more than 45 percent of all gold cardholders have a Visa Gold card. In addition, according to a recent independent survey, consumers rate Visa Gold as the No. 1 gold card by more than a two-to- one margin.
"Few people realize that more than twice as many cardholders use Visa Gold as American Express Gold," said Anne Kortlander, vice president of Product Management, Visa U.S.A. "We attribute our outstanding success to the prestige and spending power the card offers, as well as to our outstanding gold service. For example, the Visa Assistance Center offers another first in the industry by providing worldwide toll-free assistance service to all Visa Gold cardholders," said Kortlander.
The Visa Gold card offers a wide range of customer services including 24-hour Emergency Card Replacement and Emergency Cash, Auto Rental Insurance, Worldwide Travel Assistance Services and Visa Guaranteed Reservation Service. The card, which is available through Visa member financial institutions, has a minimum spending line of $5,000. Consumers should call their local banks for more Visa Gold card information.
According to a recent Gallup/American Banker consumer survey, Visa strengthened its position this year as the country's most popular, and most frequently used, credit card. The poll indicated that three out of every five people have at least one Visa card.
Visa, with more than 9 million acceptance locations, 90,000 automated teller machines (ATMs) worldwide and 269 million cards issued, including 138 million in the United States, is the world's largest consumer payment system.
