VIRTUAL REALITY PIONEER JOINS VIRTUAL REALITY, INC.
 PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtual Reality, Inc.

(Electronic Bulletin Board System: VIRT) announced today that Dr. Thomas A. Furness III, a Virtual Reality (VR) pioneer and current director of the Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HITL) at the University of Washington, has been named a director of Virtual Reality, Inc. and chairman of the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Furness has also signed a consulting agreement with the company.
Virtual Reality, Inc. specializes in VR systems for the military, medical, entertainment, industrial, educational and telecommunication fields.
As the former chief of the Visual Display Systems Branch at the Human Engineering Division of the U.S. Air Force Armstrong Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory, Furness developed advanced interface concepts for flight aircraft including the Super Cockpit, a virtual cockpit that the pilot wears. This system creates a 3-D visual, aural and tactile world that enables the pilots to operate complex aircraft with natural hand and eye movements and voice control. The potential for use of similar technology in other fields inspired him to found the HITL, where he has pioneered the use of VR, after more than two decades of experience with the U.S. Air Force.
"As the director of the world's most complete and current facility dealing with all phases of VR, Furness and his staff have defined the cutting edge of VR," said Nelson Merritt, president of Virtual Reality, Inc. "We are extremely gratified to have a world-recognized leader in VR such as Furness involved with Virtual Reality."
"I am most pleased to become a part of Virtual Reality and its management
team," said Furness. "The technologies that we're developing at HITL have reached a level of sophistication that will allow mass commercialization of VR systems. It's my opinion that VR is one of those isolated technologies, like the telephone, television and computer before it, that will touch and change the daily lives of almost everyone."
Virtual Reality, Inc. creates computer environments with three- dimensional displays, computer graphics, and interactive input and output devices. Its products currently include VR simulators, high- resolution display monitors and helmet-mounted displays for training and simulation.
