VINA'S Multiservice T1 Integrator Provides NEFAB Illinois

Plant With Access to Crucial ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  Application Outside the U.S.

NEFAB today announced the selection of an integrated access solution, the Multiservice T1 Integrator(R) from VINA Technologies, to provide its United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.  (ERP) system housed in the Peterborough, Ontario, Canada plant. It's an understatement to say that the ERP system is crucial to the existence of the Schaumburg plant.

"The ERP system housed in Peterborough is the backbone of our business in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . Without it, there is no operation in Schaumburg. The combination of the VINA Multiservice T1 Integrator and a T1 line gives us the reliable remote access we need to keep the wheels turning here," said Richard Steele

"The success being enjoyed by NEFAB's Schaumburg plant is proof positive for both telecom service providers and end users that T1-based integrated access is a reliable, cost-effective solution for delivering a mission-critical enterprise application to a branch office, even one located in a different country than the headquarters location," said Steve Bauman, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Prior to implementing the VINA solution, which terminates a T1 line carrying both voice and data to and from the Schaumburg plant, NEFAB had a 64Kbps ISDN ISDN

line connecting it with the Peterborough facility. However, traffic between the two plants was limited to financial information, largely transmitted as Internet e-mail. That traffic came from only a handful of the 50 employees in the Schaumburg plant.

When NEFAB determined that it wanted to provide the Schaumburg plant with remote access to the ERP system, there was no doubt that the ISDN line would not fit the bill for reasons including inadequate reliability and throughput speed and expensive dial-up charges. The decision was made to upgrade the telecommunications service In telecommunication, the term telecommunications service has the following meanings:

1. Any service provided by a telecommunication provider.

2.
to frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers. . For that, NEFAB needed to secure the T1 line for the Schaumburg facility.

"The thinking was that we trusted the ISDN line enough to be able to use it to do the accounting. But we were not going to bet the business on it to run our entire operation. We needed a solid, robust solution that we could count on that also wasn't going to cost us a fortune," Steele said.

On November 15, 1999, that solution, a VINA Multiservice T1 Integrator linked to a T1 line (1.544 Mbps throughput speed) provided by MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.

(2) (Microwave Communications Inc.
Worldcom, was turned up at the Schaumburg plant. In the next few weeks, the Multiservice T1 Integrator needed a few minor adjustments. It has been smooth sailing ever since.

The fact that one of the components built into the Multiservice T1 Integrator is a Frame Relay Access Device (communications) Frame Relay Access Device - (FRAD) Hardware and software that turns packets from TCP, SNA, IPX, etc into frames that can be sent over a Frame Relay wide area network.  (FRAD (Frame Relay Access Device or Frame Relay Assembler Disassembler) A communications device that formats outgoing data into the format required by a frame relay network. It strips the data back out at the other end. ) was a key factor in NEFAB's purchase decision. It also helped that both MCI Worldcom and Telcom Systems and Management, the Chicago VAR that performed the installation, independently concurred with NEFAB's decision to use the Multiservice T1 Integrator.

"One of the biggest benefits of the VINA Multiservice T1 Integrator is that it has in a single box everything we needed, especially the built-in FRAD," said Scott Kostakos, with Only Solutions, NEFAB's IT consultant.

Immediate Benefits

In addition to the savings in equipment cost thanks to the single-box installation, NEFAB also has realized immediate savings in usage cost over the variable, per-minute charges that would have been incurred with the ISDN line. The VINA-based solution allows NEFAB to receive one bill with time billed at a flat rate.

Upon adding the Multiservice T1 Integrator, NEFAB added two lines for modems to the 13 voice lines already in the Schaumburg facility. Where ISDN usage was limited to two full-time users and five part-time users, the system now has seven full-time users.

"We can grow up to 18 or 20 voice lines and three or four data lines going from 64Kbps to 128Kbps or 256Kbps if we need to. Expandability was also a big key advantage with the VINA box," said Kostakos.

The T1 Multiservice Integrator performs the functions of a channel bank, IP/IPX router, multiplexer and firewall, eliminating the need for multiple or redundant equipment from multiple vendors. Having services bundled in one compact box simplifies installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, and affords enterprise branch offices or small businesses a cost savings from point of installation and beyond.
