John Laing Homes division President Bill Rattazzi said his company has no plans to confront the protesters this week.

created by protesters prompted the company to restrict parking along the stretch of Pico Canyon Road near the tree, Rattazzi said.

``We're getting complaints from all over Stevenson Ranch about the trash, the noise and the overnight camping,'' Rattazzi said.

Supporters of the tree feared that the parking ban meant the company was planning to move in the equipment necessary to begin the process of preparing the tree for its quarter-mile move to an oak preserve.

While arborists hired by the developer say they are confident the oak tree will flourish after the move, other tree experts contend that the relocation plan is tantamount to a death sentence.

Lynne Plambeck, first vice president of the Santa Clarita Organization for Planning and the Environment, said group leaders were working diligently to pick up trash, reduce the noise and prevent traffic tie-ups.

``We even knocked on the doors of the nearest homeowners, to see if there were any problems, and many urged us on,'' Plambeck said. ``We're acting responsibly.''
