 VIEWLOGIC SYSTEMS REPORTS SECOND-QUARTER RESULTS

Net Income Increases 134 Percent on 30 Percent Revenue Increase
MARLBORO, Mass., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: VIEW) today reported that net income for the second quarter ended June 30, 1992, was $1.6 million, or 13 cents per share, compared with $694,000, or 6 cents per share, reported in the second quarter of 1991. Revenues in this year's second quarter were $13.1 million, compared with $10.1 million for the same period a year ago.
For the six month period ended June 30, 1992, Viewlogic reported net income of $2.6 million, or 20 cents per share, compared with net income of $848,000, or 8 cents per share for the same period in 1991. Year-to- date revenues were $25.4 million, vs. $19.4 million in the first half of last year.
Alain Hanover, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We are pleased with our strong second-quarter performance and our ability to successfully execute our plan for growth. Our revenues increased throughout the world, most notably in Japan where, counter to industry trends, revenues grew 59 percent over last year."
Hanover added, "We are further encouraged by the enthusiastic reception of Powerview, our new and revamped family of integrated, high-performance, standards-based design tools for the UNIX workstation market. Although the June introduction of Powerview had no major impact on this quarter's results, our outlook, based upon its outstanding reception, is that it will contribute to our growth in the remainder of the year."
Viewlogic's family of software tools automates the electronic design of programmable chips and electronic systems used in products ranging from computers to medical instrumentation to complex telecommunications systems. The company's strategy is to provide a high-performance family of tools that can be easily integrated with other development tools and operate on the widest range of UNIX and DOS-based workstations. This strategy has enabled Viewlogic to be one of the fastest-growing companies in the CAE segment of the EDA market.
