VIEWLOGIC FORMS PARTNERSHIP WITH CADIS TO SERVE DSP DESIGN MARKET; CADIS PLANS TO RESELL VIEWLOGIC FRAMEWORK AND TOOLS TO ENRICH ITS OFFERINGS

 MARLBORO, Mass., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced it is negotiating a strategic business alliance with CADIS (Herzogenrath, Germany) that enables both companies to offer the first comprehensive, standards-based electronic design automation (EDA) solutions to engineers designing digital signal processing (DSP) chips.
 CADIS will build its solution around Viewlogic's OpenFrame(TM) framework, the EDA industry's only CFI (CAD Framework Initiative)- compliant design environment, along with Viewlogic's standards-oriented design database (ViewBase(TM)) and its schematic entry tool (ViewDraw(TM)). By doing this, CADIS immediately is able to provide a rich, fully integrated DSP design environment for its customers worldwide.
 Viewlogic will integrate CADIS' COSSAP suite of DSP design automation tools into a cost-effective and comprehensive best-in-class DSP solution, including design synthesis and layout capabilities, to be offered as part of its UNIX-based Powerview(TM) EDA family.
 DSP chips are a $1.9 billion worldwide market. They are used in many advanced communications and process control systems, from cellular telephones to anti-lock brakes on automobiles.

 OpenFrame as the Enabler
 Viewlogic's OpenFrame framework is the underlying technology that makes such solutions possible. As the only CFI-compliant framework available today, OpenFrame makes integrating virtually any EDA tool from any source orders of magnitude easier and faster than previously possible -- a process that can now be measured in days and weeks instead of months or even years.

 CADIS' COSSAP is a suite of tools supporting top down design, simulation and implementation of DSPs. Principal components include:
 -- COSSAP Stream Driven Simulator, which provides extremely fast and accurate system and algorithm level simulation. This will be integrated into Viewlogic's SimBus(TM) simulation backplane to enable concurrent co- simulation of high-level representations of the system and various low- level, implementation-level simulations.
 -- COSSAP Simulation Monitor, which gives interactive control over executing simulations and also allows for real-time signal display.
 -- COSSAP model libraries, including more than 700 ready-to-use models covering a wide spectrum of DSP and communication systems applications.
 -- COSSAP DSP Code Generator, which generates code for programmable DSPs directly from the block diagram description.
 -- COSSAP VHDL Code Generator, which generates VHDL code for simulation and synthesis directly from the block diagram description.
 -- COSSAP VHDL Simulation Interface, which enables concurrent execution of one portion of the block diagram in the COSSAP Stream Driven Simulator engine and another in a VHDL simulation engine.
