VIEWLOGIC ANNOUNCES UNIQUE SOLUTION TO SWITCHED CIRCUIT ANALOG DESIGN PROBLEMS; VIEWSWEAP PROVIDES ADVANCED NEW ANALOG DESIGN METHODOLOGY

 MARLBORO, Mass., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced the immediate availability of a switched circuit simulator called ViewSweap, (Switched Electronics Analysis Program) for use in designing switched power supplies, sigma-delta A/D converters, switched capacitor filters, motor drives, and other switched circuits.
 ViewSweap solves a major problem for designers of these products, which are primarily analog. In the past, Analog simulation has not been used during the early phase of switched circuit designs because it is too slow, design models are not usually available early in the cycle, and frequently the analog simulator is unable to converge on a solution. Until now, designers have switched analog devices have had to resort to repetitive "bread-boarding" of their design before the full debugging is achieved. This is costly and significantly lengthens the design cycle.
 ViewSweap uniquely offers analog designers the capability to use simulation early in their design process, and it effectively allows them to implement a top down design methodology. It not only speeds up design time, it also allows designers to easily access design trade-offs and optimize their designs using statistical analysis during simulation. As a complementary technology to SPICE simulation, ViewSweap delivers the following benefits:

 -- Elimination of SPICE modeling problems, since models are not
 required.
 -- Guaranteed convergence on a simulation solution.

 Using ViewSweap, an engineer enters the design, inserting switches in place of models, then runs simulations to evaluate design performance. As the design matures, switches can be replaced with actual simulation models, and the design can then be passed on to a SPICE simulator for final verification.
 As a member of both the Powerview(R) and Workview PLUS(R) families, ViewSweap operates seamlessly within Viewlogic's OpenFrame design environment. Designs are entered with ViewDraw(R) and waveforms are displayed graphically within ViewTrace(R). ViewSweap works smoothly in conjunction with both Pspice(R) and HSPICE(R).
 ViewSweap has been used by a major computer manufacturer to successfully design several complex, switched circuit devices.
 Pricing is set at $7,500 on Sun, Digital, and HP workstations, and is $3500 for use on personal computers.
