The animals took refuge at the Monterey Bay Aquarium The Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is located in a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row in Monterey, California, is one of the largest and most respected aquariums in the world. It has an annual attendance of 1.8 million and holds 35,000 plants and animals representing 623 species. for more than 8 months while their habitats were rebuilt. Upon touch down, the first-class cargo made an arrival and was then transported via a motorcade to their reconstructed habitat. The animals arrived just in time for the grand re-opening of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas on May 26. FedEx continues its dedication to assisting with the economic and cultural recovery of the Gulf Coast region, donating both its expertise and the use of its global express transportation network for the benefit of the communities in which the company works. Additionally, FedEx has made a donation of $100,000 to the Audubon Nature Institute The Audubon Nature Institute is family of museums and parks dedicated to nature based in New Orleans, Louisiana. It consists of the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, Audubon Louisiana Nature Center, Audubon Park, Woldenberg Riverfront Park, Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species for the penguin exhibit.
