VICKERS AWARDED NEW BUSINESS FOR DEERE'S NEW FAMILY OF TRACTORS

MAUMEE, Ohio, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Vickers, Incorporated, a TRINOVA company (TNV:NYSE), has been awarded approximately $6 million in new business by Deere & Company for Deere's new family of 66- to 145- horsepower agricultural tractors, the John Deere 6000 and 7000 Series. Vickers will supply the main hydraulic pump and the main brake valve for the larger 7000 Series tractors for the U.S. market, as well as the main pump for the 6000 Series tractors for the European market.

Searcy and Omaha Are Participants
Vickers Industrial facilities in both Searcy, Ark., and Omaha, Neb., are participating in the new business.
The Searcy facility, in conjunction with Deere Product Engineering, designed and developed the brake valve, which Searcy is currently manufacturing exclusively for Deere's dual-stage braking system. The valve receives pressure fluid directly from the pump, and, in the event of a hydraulic or engine power loss, acts as a two-stage manual cylinder for braking efficiency.
The Omaha plant supplies a special-model, pressure- and flow- compensated, axial-piston main pump for the Deere hydraulic system. The main pump provides maximum pressure up to 2900 psi (200 bar) for faster hydraulic responses and shorter cycle times.

Customer Orientation Drives Program
The new business is a result of Vickers' effort to understand the customer's technical and commercial requirements, and to aggressively pursue the order.
The work to win the valve for the power braking system began in 1987 when a Vickers team comprising representatives from product management, engineering, manufacturing, finance, and sales and marketing met with Deere personnel at Deere's Waterloo, Iowa, plant. Vickers' lead project engineer is now the cell manager for the focused factory cell that produces the brake valve.
Deere introduced the 6000 and 7000 Series tractors to its dealership personnel during 1992, and is making the new models available in quantity this year. Deere expects the new line to provide a product platform that will meet demands of worldwide markets far into the future.
TRINOVA is a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of engineered components and systems for industry. TRINOVA's components and systems are sold through its operating companies, Aeroquip and Vickers, to the industrial, automotive, and aerospace and defense markets.
