VIBE Announces 2005 VIBE Award Nominees

VIBE magazine and UPN will present the third annual VIBE Awards on Tuesday, November 15 (8-10pm ET/PT). The show will feature musical performances from chart-topping artists and award presentations by the hottest celebrities from the worlds of music, fashion, television, sports and film.

Ciara, Carey, Legend and West are also up for Artist of the Year, while 50 Cent, who has also been nominated for that title, is included in the most categories in the list of nominees.

This year, the award categories include: R&B; Voice of the Year, Next Award, Coolest Collabo, Street Anthem, Powerbroker of the Year, Club Banger, Reelest Video, Hottest Hook, Video Goddess, the Boomshot Award (honoring excellence in Caribbean music), Best R&B; Song, Best Group, Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. Three new categories will be introduced this year, including Best Rapper, honoring the MC with the most dynamic lyrics and style; VIBE VIXEN, recognizing a woman whose personae and spirit influences urban culture; and VStyle, awarded to the fashion collection most desired by urban trendsetters.

Last year, the second annual VIBE Awards featured performances by The Game, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Nelly, Ashanti and more. Dr. Dre received the VIBE Legend Award, and Keys and Terror Squad topped the winners list with two awards each.

In order to be eligible for nomination, albums and songs must have been released between October 2004 and September 2005. Nominations were determined by the VIBE editorial staff, headed by Editor-in-Chief Mimi Valdes. Winners in each category will be chosen by votes from music journalists and regional tastemakers, and announced at the two-hour-long VIBE Awards.
