:VAS) announced today that it has come together with the American College of Sports Medicine '''Founded in 1954, the AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SPORTS MEDICINE is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. More than 20,000 international, national and regional members are dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational  (ACSM ACSM American College of Sports Medicine. ) to provide a Satellite Symposium at the 53rd ACSM Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. MDT titled: Importance of Quality Control Studies Prior to Using Automated Systems for the Measurements of Oxygen Uptake in Exercise Science.

Professor Per-Olof Astrand of Karolinska Institute will chair this symposium and presents a historic overview about the measurement techniques of oxygen uptake during physical activity since the 18th century. Professor Astrand is the author of the Textbook of Work Physiology, a worldwide accepted reference about the physiological bases of exercise, first published in 1970.
