VIA Expands Management Team With Graphics Market Veteran; New Marketing Director Joins With Strong Strategic Planning and Chip/System Design Background.


FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 22, 1996--VIA Technologies Inc., a key developer of PC logic components, today announced the appointment of Dean Hays to the new position of director of marketing.

VIA, founded in 1987, designs and develops high performance PC-centric ICs for single- and multi-processor desktop and portable computer systems. Apollo(TM) VP-2 and Apollo Pro(TM), the company's recently introduced Pentium(TM) and Pentium Pro The sixth generation of the Intel x86 family of CPU chips. The term may refer to the chip or to a PC that uses it. Introduced in 1995 as the successor to the Pentium, models from 150 MHz to 200 MHz were released. (TM) core logic chip sets, are now being evaluated and shipped to major PC OEMs.

Prior to Weitek, Hays was director of technical marketing for Chips & Technologies' graphics division where he managed product definition, the engineering lab, technical documentation, customer support, FAE training and competitive analysis for the company's highly successful graphics controller line.

Before that he held engineering and engineering management positions at Video Seven, Valid Logic and National Semiconductor. He co-founded specialty computer system companies Manti Inc. and Azimuth azimuth (ăz`əməth), in astronomy, one coordinate in the altazimuth coordinate system. It is the angular distance of a body measured westward along the celestial horizon from the observer's south point.  Inc. and has been published nationally and internationally in engineering trade journals.
