VFW POST 3552 RECEIVES NATIONAL SERVICE AWARD MEMBERS' WORK AT CEMETERY CITED.

PALMDALE - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3552 received a National Outstanding Community Service Award from the national VFW See Video for Windows.  organization.

The post was honored for its members' work repairing a wall and doing other work at Palmdale Cemetery, whose graves date back to the 19th century and hold early Palmdale settlers.

 accepted the award at the national convention in Cincinnati.

To qualify for the award, the post had to submit information along with four scrapbooks in four different areas of involvement: Americanism, community service, youth activities and legislation. The books contain photos of the work done, a description of the work, and the names of those involved.

``I didn't get any (awards) from state and I didn't get any from district. But state sent my book in for recognition to nationals and blew their minds,'' said Springer.

Post members also are involved in the Stand Down events that provide counseling, clothing and other help to homeless veterans. They also provide financial assistance to the widows and families of the deceased.
