PALMDALE - Veterans Day will be remembered in observances Thursday in Palmdale, Lancaster and Rosamond.

Ceremonies are scheduled at Lancaster and Palmdale cemeteries, at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  and at a Rosamond park.

--Lancaster Cemetery will hold services at 8 a.m. Hillview Middle School Hillview Middle School is a public middle school in Menlo Park, California, part of the Menlo Park City School District. It is notable as having been named a California Distinguished School seven times.  students will recite poems and sing. Speaking will be Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts and Cemetery District Manager Barbara Little, who will talk about attending the 60th reunion of veterans of the 1944 sea battle of Leyte Gulf Parameter not given Error...

, in which her brother was killed.

The Hillview students will place flags on the graves of nearly 500 veterans, some dating back to the Civil War.

Lancaster Cemetery is at 111 E. Lancaster Blvd.

--Joshua Memorial Park will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. The park is located at 808 E. Lancaster Blvd.

--The Antelope Valley Service Organization will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 E. Ave. S, Palmdale.

--In Rosamond, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9657 and American Legion Post 490 will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. in Glendower Park, on Glendower Street north of Rosamond Boulevard.

-- Veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War will speak at 11 a.m. in Library Plaza at Antelope Valley College, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

Speaking will be Women Airforce Service Pilot Marguerite ``Ty'' Hughes Killen; retired Navy Capt. Thomas Craft; and George Palermo.
