 ceremony, about 40 former soldiers and their families paid tribute Saturday to comrades who lost their lives fighting in conflicts from World War II to the Gulf War.

The group fell silent and saluted as taps was played and the American flag was raised on a pole at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard The following streets are named Foothill Boulevard:

``It's hard to get people out here,'' said Ralph Burns, 79, of Lake View Terrace, an Army paratrooper in World War II. ``Veterans won't even come because it's kind of a bad dream. They don't want to remember. For 40 years, I wouldn't come, but now I do.''
