Elkton program includes play, music performances

ELKTON - The school district will host its sixth annual Veterans Day program Wednesday.

The 10 a.m. event at Elkton High School, 739 River Road, will include a play and performances by a student band and choir, as well as The Gospel Sound.

Free coffee and cookies will be served.

The holiday tradition is the district's way of honoring those who have served and are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, Superintendent Rhonda Zosel said. It is open to the public but those planning to attend are invited to RSVP (ReSerVation Protocol) A communications protocol that signals a router to reserve bandwidth for real time transmission. RSVP is designed to clear a path for audio and video traffic, eliminating annoying skips and hesitations.  to Patty Gray at (541) 584-2228, Ext. 1.

Eugene Bible College A Bible college is an institution of higher education in which the course of study specializes in biblical studies. This curriculum differs from the focus on academic programs of Christian liberal arts colleges or research universities, which may include, but are not limited to,  plans community event

A community Veterans Day ceremony Thursday at the Eugene Bible College's Cross Plaza will salute veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces.

A Navy color guard will take part in the ceremony, which includes honoring veterans and their families, a wreath-laying and a keynote address keynote address

Posts sponsor ceremony at Memorial Building

A local tradition of marking Veterans Day will take place at the Veterans Memorial Building on Thursday morning.

The brief ceremony starts 11 a.m. in front of the veterans building, 1626 Willamette St. The event marks the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Post 3 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 293 are sponsoring the ceremony.

Elks to serve free dinner to homeless veterans

The Eugene Elks Lodge No. 357 will hold a free dinner for homeless veterans on Veterans Day.

The lodge will serve a spaghetti spaghetti: see pasta.  dinner Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the lodge, 2470 W. 11th Ave. The Elks will offer rides to and from the lodge for those without transportation or who are otherwise unable to travel to the dinner. All veterans and their families are also welcome to attend.
