Veterans Day will be marked Tuesday with a variety of ceremonies around Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Cemeteries
Forest Lawn is a generic name for many cemeteries in the United States. The majority of these are old, elaborate cemeteries that historically had a secondary use as a public park:

A helicopter flyover also will be part of Forest Lawn's 44th annual Veterans Day program, which begins at 11 a.m. at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles.

Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Eric L. Haney Command Sergeant Major Eric L. Haney (US Army-Ret.) is former member of the United States Army's counter-terrorist unit, the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1SFOD-D), more commonly known as Delta Force. , founding member of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta and author of ``Inside Delta Force,'' will be the keynote speaker. Performances by the 42nd Highlanders Regimental Pipes and Drum and the Notre Dame High School Notre Dame is the name of the following high (secondary) schools: Bangladesh
  • Notre Dame College (Dhaka) in Dhaka, Bangladesh
Canada
  • Notre Dame High School (Calgary) in Calgary, Alberta
 Marching Band, as well as a wreath-laying ceremony and an historic military vehicle display, will be part of the event.

Here are other observances of Veterans Day:

--MOORPARK - American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Moorpark Post 502 will replace the U.S. flag and POW/MIA POW/MIA Prisoner Of War/Missing In Action  banner at 8 a.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Flagpole, Moorpark and Los Angeles avenues, Moorpark. A blue star service banner will be added to the display. Call (805) 523-3355.

--LANCASTER - A program will begin at 8 a.m. at Lancaster Cemetery, 111 E. Lancaster Blvd. Students from the California Junior Scholarship Federation from Hillview School will present stories and poems honoring veterans. Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts and veteran B-17 pilot Bob Avis will be the guest speakers. Call (661) 942-6110.

--MOORPARK - American Legion Post 502 and Auxiliary, Boy Scout Troop 604 and the city of Moorpark will host a program at 10 a.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Grove in Poindexter Park, Moorpark. A flag retirement ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. The public is invited to bring any unserviceable American flag to the solemn flag-burning ceremony. Call (805) 523-3355.

--BURBANK - ``Honoring All Who Served'' is the theme for a program at 11 a.m. at McCambridge Park War Memorial, Amherst Drive and San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the . A flyover by the Condor Squadron, a plaque dedication in memory of Bob Hope and music by the Burbank Community Band and the Burroughs High School Vocal Ensemble will be part of the program. --SIMI VALLEY - A program will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Veterans Plaza at Rancho Tapo Community Park, 3700 Avenida Simi. U.S. Marine Corps League Detachment Ventura, Veterans of Foreign War Post 10049, Disabled American Veterans The Disabled American Veterans, or DAV, is an organization for disabled veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members.

The DAV was controversial during the 2006 election cycle.
 Chapter 55 and Boy Scout Troop 649 will participate. Call (805) 526-2338.

--LANCASTER - Veterans of Foreign War Post 7283 and Auxiliary will host the 11 a.m. program at Joshua Memorial Park, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd. Marine Sgt. Major James E. Banks, MAG-46 Detachment Bravo, will be the guest speaker. The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team will perform. Call (661) 942-8125.

--ROSAMOND - A program will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rosamond Park, Glendower Street. Boy Scout Troop 41 will serve a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Call (661) 256-3061.

 Air Force Junior ROTC will raise the colors and the Palmdale Veterans Color Guard will give a rifle salute at 11 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 E. Ave. S. Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford, Palmdale Sheriff's Capt. John Witt and U.S. Air Force Plant 42 Lt. Col. Ronald A. Ortiz will be the guest speakers. Call (661) 267-5611.

--SIMI VALLEY - A Veterans Day program will begin at 11:11 a.m. at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Center for Public Affairs
 and Museum, 40 Presidential Drive. The Ventura County Concert Band will perform at 1 p.m. Free admission for veterans, $5 adults, $3 seniors 62 and older, free for children 15 and younger. The Reagan Library and Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (800) 410-8354.

--VAN NUYS - City Councilman Tony Cardenas will host a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the courtyard at the Martin Braude Building, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd. Call (818) 778-4999.
