VETERANS DAY EVENT SET FOR DESERT LAWN PARK.Byline: Daily News PALMDALE -- Antelope Valley service organizations will host their traditional Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. today at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 E. Ave. S. The ceremony will begin with the dedication of a POW/MIA POW/MIA Prisoner Of War/Missing In Action memorial stone donated by the American Legion Riders, Chapter 311. Featured speakers include Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford; Daughters of the American Revolution Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a Colonial patriotic society in the United States, open to women having one or more ancestors who aided the cause of the Revolution. The society was organized (1890) at Washington, D.C. registrar Viola Lawrence; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3552 commander Dave Parra; Disabled American Veterans The Disabled American Veterans, or DAV, is an organization for disabled veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members. The DAV was controversial during the 2006 election cycle. Chapter 39 commander Ruben Trejo, and Palmdale Chamber of Commerce chairwoman Eva Eveland. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. color guard will fire a rifle salute to veterans and the Palmdale Veterans Color Guard bugler will play taps. Fleet Reserve Association member Phil Roberts will recite ``Let Them In, Peter'' and VFW Auxiliary member Evie Moore will sing ``My Buddy.'' |
