VERTEX INDUSTRIES SHIPS FIRST BRIDGE.NET 6000 SOFTWARE TO NEWELL; WILL ALSO SHOW NEW BRIDGE.NET 6000 APPLICATION FOR IBM A S400 AT EXPO IN N.J.

CLIFTON, N.J., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Vertex Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: VETX) announced today that it has shipped the first BRIDGE.NET~6000 Runtime Modules for IBM's RS~6000 (AIX) mid-range RISC-based computer to the Newell Group in Freeport, Ill. A complete API interface for Progress Database and "C" programmers was also added which allows complete connectivity to any Bridge system node on a peer to peer basis regardless of platform type or Operating System.
In making the announcement, James Q. Maloy, president, said that the Newell Group will use the Bridge Application Software, resident directly on the RS~6000, to control approximately 60 terminals and 60 printers which provide Shipping Manifest verification and label generation for goods being shipped to Kmart and other retailers.
Mr. Maloy also announced that Vertex will show, at the Mid-Range Expo Show in Edison, N.J., on Nov. 17 and 18, its new BRIDGE.NET software on an RS~6000 linked directly to an IBM AS~400 platform running BRIDGE.NET~400 software.
This demonstrates, for the first time, a generic applications program which is platform independent and provides total peer to peer capabilities including the sharing of each other's database.
