As Novell's flagship, directory-based server operating system, NetWare 5.1 allows users to explore the growing trend of Web-based, e-business applications, as well as Web-based network management and resources. Version 8.5 of VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare offers customers increased functionality and superior data protection for their Web servers and mission-critical systems to ensure business without interruption.

As the first NetWare 5.1 `Yes Tested and Approved' backup solution, VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare provides reliable, high-performance and easy-to-use backups for NetWare users. Reliability is enhanced with VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare's Tape Mirror feature, which gives users the ability to target a single backup job to multiple tape drives simultaneously. Users can keep one tape on-site and send the duplicate to an off-site storage location for safekeeping. In the event a tape drive fails, Tape Mirror also provides full redundancy, successfully completing the backup on the other drives. VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare's Quick Check feature offers an automated confirmation that the data is reliably written on the tape and available for restore. Additionally, Quick Check validates that the customer's hardware is working correctly.

With the inclusion of IBM WebSphere, WebSphere Studio and Oracle8i, NetWare 5.1 provides customers with an ideal platform for Web-based applications. NetWare 5.1 also gives users the opportunity to extend Novell Directory Services to the Web with NDS eDirectory for building and managing secure and customized relationships with customers and partners. In addition, Novell offers customers the most dependable and efficient access to network resources. Included with the five-user license of Oracle that ships in the NetWare 5 box is the VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare Agent for Oracle. With the Oracle Agent and VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare, customers can back up individual Oracle table spaces and archive redo logos.
