VERDUGO HILLS UPSET WINNER.

Wes Tom hit a home run to right center field to break a 1-1 tie with one out in the top of the eight inning as Verdugo Hills of Tujunga (2-1) upset Chaminade of West Hills 3-1 Tuesday in a Daily News Invitational game at Chaminade.

Kevin Brown was 2 for 2 with an RBI and Gary Lizarraga, Dennis Wammack and Ryan Stanley each added a hit for Verdugo Hills.

The Eagles were led defensively by pitcher Sean Clark, who pitched seven innings while striking out 10 batters, six of which came on the first eight batters he faced. Clark, who threw 59 of his 76 pitches for strikes, had a one-hitter going into the seventh inning before allowing Lizarraga and Wammack to have back-to-back hits to lead off the inning.

Ranked No. 6 by the Daily News, Chaminade (1-2) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Andrew Yaffe brought in Erik Johnson on a single off the right field wall.

--Cleveland 16, L.A. Baptist 6: The Cavaliers of Reseda jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then had innings of six and five runs as they cruised to victory at L.A. Baptist (1-2) of North Hills.

Leadoff hitter Robert Marcial led the way for Cleveland (2-1) with four hits, four runs scored and two RBI.

--Notre Dame 4, Birmingham 2: Daniel Rodarte overcame a shaky start and pitched five strong innings for the Knights of Sherman Oaks, who rallied for their first victory of the season at Notre Dame.

Birmingham of Van Nuys (1-2) got to Rodarte early when Raul Campos hit a two-run home run in the first inning, staking the Patriots to a 2-0 lead.

Notre Dame (1-2) countered with a run in the first and then scored two more in the second for a 3-2 lead. Rodarte made the lead stick by allowing only three hits in the next four innings.

--Eagle Rock 11, Montclair Prep 8: Leading 5-1 through four innings, the Mounties of Van Nuys promptly let 16 Eagle Rock batters come up to the plate in the next two innings, giving up seven runs while committing four errors, in a lost at Mission Hills Little League.

The Mounties (1-2) spoiled another strong pitching performance from sophomore Kevin Pollack. Pollack, who beat South Gate last week, went 5 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on eight hits.

Sophomore Paul DeMent went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Montclair Prep. Daniel Millman, junior Brian Trump and Garen Hartunian each had two hits for Mounties.

Eagle Rock (2-1) was led by Geromino Real, Luis Lopez and Jose Solano, who each had two hits.

--North Hollywood 6, Highland 4: Mike Rodriguez drove in the winning run and freshman pitcher Max Limonick (1-0) pitched three shutout innings as the Huskies (2-1) rallied to beat the Bulldogs of Palmdale at North Hollywood in a game called after six innings because of darkness.

Rodriguez's RBI in the fifth inning broke a 4-4 tie. D.J. Lewis led off with a walk, Edgar Robles sacrificed him to third, and Eliseo Raiguza walked to load the bases. Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly to center for the go-ahead run.

--Grant 6, Calabasas 3: Brian Hauser had three hits, two RBI and a run scored and pitcher Larry Brown gave up one earned run and struck out eight in seven innings to lift the Lancers of Van Nuys (2-1) over the Coyotes (1-2) at Grant.

--Harvard-Westlake 6, Wilson 0: Ryan Kissick and Jeff Wiener combined for an eight-hit shutout for the Wolverines of Studio City (2-1) in a win over the Mules of Los Angeles at Wilson.

--Postponements and reschedulings: Wednesday's game between Antelope Valley and Franklin was rescheduled for Friday due to muddy field conditions at Franklin. Also, the Monroe-La Canada and St. Francis-El Camino Real games, which were rained out Tuesday, will be played Friday. All games will be at 3 p.m.

--Location found: The game between Lancaster and South Gate, which was scheduled to be played Tuesday at Birmingham High, has been moved to South Gate and will be played Friday at 3 p.m.
