VERBATIM ADDS SUNDISK TO STORAGE CARD LINE; SOLID STATE FLASH CARDS SHIP IN JANUARY

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Verbatim Corporation has signed an agreement with SunDisk Corporation under which Verbatim will distribute worldwide its own brand of SunDisk-produced flash mass storage cards.
Verbatim, one of the world's largest manufacturers of computer storage products, will begin distribution of Verbatim brand flash cards in January 1994.
"SunDisk's unrivaled expertise in integrating semiconductor and data storage technology into high capacity and cost-effective PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) solutions made our decision easy," says Nicky Hartery, president and CEO of Verbatim.
Eli Harari, president and CEO of SunDisk, says, "With Verbatim, SunDisk -- the world's leading supplier of flash cards -- now has a strong partner who will bring our leading edge products to the consumer through a worldwide distribution network. We believe that flash cards will have mass appeal and will become the floppies of the 90s."
Verbatim initially will carry SunDisk flash cards in 5, 10, and 20MB (Megabyte) capacities. Those capacities effectively will be doubled with compression software pre-loaded on the cards. SunDisk solid-state cards meet the PC Card ATA standard established by the PCMCIA and the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA).
Extremely rugged and resistant to shock and vibration, SunDisk flash mass storage cards don't require a battery to retain data, consume very little power and therefore significantly extend the battery life of mobile computers and communicators. They provide instant data access, are compatible with 5 and 12 volt systems, and allow data transportability between computers and other electronic platforms.
SunDisk mass storage cards are compatible with industry-standard PC Card ATA computers and communicators including the Casio Z-7000, Tandy Z- PDA, IBM ThinkPads, IBM Green PC, Hewlett-Packard 486 Vectra PC, Omnibook 300, 425 and 100 LX, AT&T/EO 440 and 880, NEC Ultralite Versa and Autograph, NCR 3150 and 3170 and many others.
SunDisk designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state mass storage products using proprietary high-density flash memory technology. SunDisk has established strategic relationships with Seagate Technology, AT&T and Matsushita Electronics Corporation. Seagate holds a 25 percent equity stake in SunDisk. SunDisk, founded in 1988 and based in Santa Clara, Calif., is privately held.
Verbatim Corporation sells more floppy and optical disks than anyone in the world and is the world's fastest growing QIC data cartridge company. It manufactures and distributes both rewritable and write-once optical disks, as well as recordable CD media and memory cards.
