VENTURA - A pirate-themed gala - complete with a hunt for treasure - will kick off the sixth annual Ventura Chamber Music Festival, an 11-day tribute to classical music that starts tonight.

Running through May 14, the festival - which this year has the theme of ``Living Treasures'' - will offer 20 separate events that feature such diverse sounds as Latin guitars, string quartets and soprano vocals.

The unique lure, organizers say, is the intimate downtown settings for the concerts, including the new Serra Center Auditorium at the San Buenaventura
"San Buenaventura" is also the official name of the city in Southern California, United States, normally referred to as Ventura, California. It can also refer to Mission San Buenaventura.

``If you're a classical music fan, it's a one-in-a-million chance,'' festival publicist Andrea Windle said. ``In such a small venue, you can actually see (the musicians') hands moving.''
