THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - Ed Masry, the attorney made famous in this year's blockbuster movie ``Erin Brockovich,'' and incumbent Linda Parks took the lead in early returns in their bid for two City Council seats.

Masry contributed $95,000 in his effort to craft a new majority on the council, which often has been contentiously divided on environmental and growth issues.

``Linda and I are leading over a considerable margin. . . . I think it's all over,'' Masry said at an election night party at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza. ``I think that the voters realize that developers had their day, and it was time to get new blood on the council.''

Incumbent Michael Markey was trailing, along with challengers Jim Bruno, Chris Buckett, Joe Gibson William Joseph Gibson (born June 28, 1919 in Nocona, TX) was an American football defensive back and end in the NFL for the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Rams. Gibson also played in the All-America Football Conference for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  and Mary Harris.

Markey said it was too early to comment until more ballots were counted.

``For people to say it's yes or no any one way is foolish,'' said Markey. ``I'll wait till the voters' results come in from the polls... We'll see what happens.''

    Simi Valley School Board: DiFatta, Collins, Gould on top

    SIMI VALLEY - Incumbents Janice DiFatta and Diane Collins were well ahead in their bid for re-election while Steven P. Gould held a slight edge in the race for the third open seat, early returns show.

    Gould was leading Debbie Sandland in the race that also drew Gloria Bowman, Curtis Carson, Fred Clark, Terrie Heinama Hamilton, Chris Hamilton, Tim Keaney and Michael Murphy and focused on overcrowding and school facilities.
