VASELINE INTENSIVE CARE SUNCARE TO SHIP $500,000 WORTH OF FREE SUN PROTECTION PRODUCTS TO PRE-SCHOOLS; PROGRAM FOR SUN-EDUCATION MESSAGE
NEW YORK, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In a unique sun-education campaign targeted to the nation's children, Vaseline Intensive Care's new "Ship America Suncare" program is offering pre-schools nationwide the opportunity to receive free sunscreen products.
Principals and teachers at pre-schools are invited to call 212-421-9787 for information on how to receive a care package of Vaseline Intensive Care moisturizing sunscreen products and educational literature from The Skin Cancer Foundation for both teachers and parents. "Ship America Suncare," and the donation of more than half a million dollars of products, represents a bid to raise national awareness of the need to protect children from the sun on a daily basis and introduce them early-on to sun protection as a routine.
"There's a growing awareness that most of the sun exposure that leads to skin cancer later in life occurs during childhood and teenage years. Despite this people still don't understand the need for daily protection -- on the way to school or in the playground," said Dr. Perry Robins, president of The Skin Cancer Foundation. "Where skin cancer is believed to be an imminent danger, due to ozone depletion, some countries have started to take action. For instance, in southern Chile, many parents are keeping children indoors between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. In Australia, where the skin cancer rates are the highest in the world, children are urged to wear hats and protective clothing when outside during lunch and play time."
The "Ship America Suncare" program will be limited to one per school and is offered to the first 1,000 callers. The 212-421-9787 telephone number will be accessible from May 15 through June 15, 1992.
Chesebrough-Pond's USA, manufacturer of Vaseline Intensive Care Suncare, continues to support its commitment to education as a solid investment in the lives of America's children.
