 is signing up campers for seven-day camp programs in July.

YMCA leaders said the program offers a progressive camping experience for campers age 8 through high school, as well as an extensive leadership development program for teens.

It was founded in March 2006 by Nat Wei, a former founder of Teach First. ,'' said Laura Mayo, executive director of the Antelope Valley Valley YMCA. ``Summer camp is the perfect environment to learn all that.''

Camp Fox 2004 is a camp that runs July 4-11 for teens entering grades nine through 12. This camping program combines outdoor and water-based activities with social engagement and group work. These campers get to enjoy swimming, diving and kayaking. Cost is $400 per camper.

 ages 8 to 14 can go to Camp Whittle, located in the San Bernardino Mountains San Bernardino Mountains, part of the Coast Range, S Calif., extending c.60 mi (100 km) NW and SE through San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Notable peaks are San Bernardino Mt. (10,630 ft/3,240 m) and Mt. San Gorgonio (11,485 ft/3,501 m).  near Big Bear from July 10-17.

Twelve to 16-year-olds can attend the High Sierra Outdoor Adventure Aug. 21-27. The program focuses on building leadership, empowerment and a greater appreciation and awareness of the outdoors, YMCA leaders said.

Besides participating in activities similar to those offered at Camp Whittle, these teens learn outdoor safety, fishing and climbing.

The cost is $305 per camper.

Campers will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

A $50 registration deposit is due at time of registration.

The YMCA has financial assistance available for qualified campers.
