VAN NUYS WELCOMES MCDONALD'S.

VAN NUYS - In a symbol of renewal oftheir community, Van Nuys residents on Saturday celebrated the opening of a McDonald's restaurant.

More than 100 locals danced, ate and even petted the goats in the petting zoo at the new restaurant at Victory Boulevard Victory Boulevard is a major thoroughfare on Staten Island, measuring approximately 8.0 miles (12.87 km) and stretching from the west shore community of Travis to the upper east shore communities of St. George and Tompkinsville.  and Kester Avenue.

``It's a wonderful addition,'' said Nancy Hoffman, chief executive officer of the Mid-Valley Chamber of Commerce. ``I think the community can turn around and re-invent itself.''

 Valley's most prosperous commercial centers, the Van Nuys area has been hurt by economic problems over the past few decades.

Attracting high-profile businesses like McDonald's is expected to raise the profile of the community.

``We've done everything first-class to encourage the neighborhood to improve,'' said Rolando Verdecia, operations manager See datacenter manager.  for the McDonald's Corp.

The ribbon-cutting was attended by business leaders and representatives from local and state offices.
