VALLEYNEWS.COM HARKENS BACK TO THE GOOD `OL DAYS.Byline: -- Jason Kandel In the beginning, few people knew about valleynews.com, this bold new effort our newspaper was undertaking to connect with more people on the Internet Internet Publicly accessible computer network connecting many smaller networks from around the world. It grew out of a U.S. Defense Department program called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), established in 1969 with connections between computers at the . It's a new forum to give a voice to people who might not have had one before, or whose story ideas and messages to media outlets fell on deaf ears. Well, nearly six months has passed since we launched, and the buzz continues. Folks have not only heard about the site but are inspired to get their word out through it. Some are discovering the wonderful art of writing for the first time. It's a beautiful thing and we encourage more of it in 2007. Valleynews.com, and this accompanying weekly print edition you hold in your hands, has been quite incredible. People have been calling us, wanting to know how they can post their stories online and get the print edition delivered to their houses. Some people have been calling, saying they have been longtime long·time adj. People have been logging on and sharing their lives with the world.
