VALLEY TEAMS TOP BAND-AND-DRILL CONTEST.Byline: SIMONE SCRAMM Community columnist Seven local schools won top prizes in their divisions at the Los Angeles Unified School District's 31st Annual Band and Drill Team Championship. Bands and drill teams were evaluated for music, visual performance and general effect. In addition, the LAUSD All-District Honor Band made its debut. The band features members of various school bands. The competition is sponsored by the LAUSD's Beyond the Bell Branch, which promotes excellence in the educational aspects of halftime performances at athletic events by high school bands and drill teams as combined units. Thousand Oaks Auto Mall is holding its annual food and toy drive for the MANNA Conejo Valley Food Bank. Collection bins have been placed in dealership showrooms where employees and customers can donate nonperishable food and toys for local families in need. Participating dealers will match each donation. A total of $7,500 was raised in 2002 and this year they hope to break the $10,000 mark. Bins will remain in showrooms until Dec. 20.
