VALLEY STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN MOCK GOVERNMENT.Byline: SIMONE SCHRAMM Community columnist The American Legion Valley Post 582 in Granada Hills sent two local students to the Girls and Boys State mock government contest that runs through Friday. Girls State is at Claremont College and Boys State is at Sacramento State College. The program teaches high school juniors about politics and American government. Julio G. The positions in the contest mimic real government officials. ``I'm pretty excited. It's something new that I want to experience since I have an interest in politics,'' Jimenez said. Students who demonstrate outstanding citizenship and leadership will move on to the national state contest for a chance to meet the president. High school students enrolled in a Mission College culinary arts class have been awarded $182,865 in scholarships toward studies in the culinary arts field.
