VALLEY SHOWCASE SINGER-GUITARIST TAKES TOP PRIZE.

SAUGUS Saugus (sô`gəs), town (1990 pop. 25,549), Essex co., NE Mass., a suburb of Boston on the Saugus River near the Atlantic Ocean; settled before 1637, set off from Lynn and inc. 1815. Mainly residential, the town has some light manufacturing.  - After three months of spirited competition, the second annual SCV's Most Talented Performer showcase recently announced a winner at a ceremony in Saugus.

The 125 vocalists and instrumentalists who entered the competition in January had been whittled down to five age-group winners: Alissa-Mae Padilla (5-8); Taylor Donti (9-12); Kathryn Friedrich and Ashley Moniz Mo·niz , Antonio Caetano de Abreu Freire Egas 1874-1955.

After a very close competition with just hundredths of points separating the top contestants, Anderson was announced the overall winner. He received a $1,000 cash prize and a $1,000 recording session compliments com·pli·ment

Donti was runner-up and received a $500 cash prize, a $250 photo shoot and a $1,000 recording session. Moniz, Friedrich and Padilla each received a $500 cash prize and up to $250 worth of merchandise and gift certificates from various sponsors.

The showcase was produced and directed by Nancy Dee Horak and Christine Day. Horak is the director of D.E.E. Studios, which specializes in private and class instruction for children's musical theater, voice and piano in Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Stevenson Ranch fountain was redone in 2007. , and Day is a featured jazz vocalist, a music casting director for film and television, and director of a newly created artist-development group.

``This valley has so much talent that it would be a shame not to showcase it,'' Horak said. ``It's truly incredible to sit back and enjoy the energy and enthusiasm that this showcase generates.''

Last year one of the showcase contestants was offered a $50,000 recording contract after being seen at one of the competition events.

``A competition of this type not only provides the opportunity for children and adults alike to present their talent publicly, but also provides a chance to be discovered,'' she said.
