Celebration of it began during the American Revolution.  weekend.

It wasn't to be.

``But I don't mind that it's overcast,'' the Woodland Hills resident said.

Taking advantage of temperatures in the upper 70s, she spent the morning jogging near Warner Ranch Park on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pushing a double stroller containing her two young sons.

Today, expect much of the same.

Forecasters said morning low clouds with fog will continue to hover over the Valley, with the chance of morning drizzle. But sunshine is expected in the late afternoon with a high temperature of 80.

And the Air Quality Management District said good air quality is expected for the coastal and metropolitan Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  areas today.

If anything, the cool temperatures brought out more people to enjoy their day off.

``It gets so hot in the Valley this time of year, I'm thankful,'' said Roger Feldman of Woodland Hills, who was padded for his first time in-line skating in his neighborhood.

Tanya Alter was vacationing in the Valley from San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden .

``When I woke up this morning, I was like, hey, where's the sun?'' said Alter, who was out wearing a cap, walking her dog.

And if the sun comes out as she had anticipated, Alter said, she will ``relax and sit in the sun outside.''

Ron Carter said he still had not decided what his family was going to do for the weekend, but Friday morning was spent in the dog park at White Oak Avenue and Victory Boulevard.

``Maybe we'll go to CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  to watch the fireworks,'' the North Hills man said while he and his two children walked their dog, Nick.

Carter was joined by plenty of other families and dog owners who had passed on leaving town for the holiday weekend.

Carter said his plans had nothing to do with the weather, but added, ``I hope it gets sunnier later.''
