VALLEY COLLEGE STUDENTS GAIN CSUN ADMISSION.Byline: Robert Monroe Staff Writer California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an officials estimated the participation of 200 Valley College students in a pilot program Wednesday to admit them to the university at the Valley campus. Instant Admissions Day will be repeated at four other colleges in the region this semester and another five next semester, said Ludim Seja De Manzano,CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge director of student outreach and recruitment. CSUN faculty members and counselors went over Valley College students' transcripts and signed them up if they met admission requirements. Seja De Manzano said the goal of the admissions event is to bring the university to the students. ``It's a philosophy of demonstrating to the community that we are student-centered,'' she said. Valley President Tyree Wieder said the program complements a CSUN program already in place that facilitates admissions of high school students. ``We have a very strong transfer alliance in place,'' she said. Instant Admissions Day is one of several admission programs offered by Cal State University schools. The Cal State system this week said applications received online through the CSUMentor system increased by 178 percent in its second year. The system received more than 42,000 applications, roughly 25 percent of all applications, online for the fall 1999 semester. Other colleges hosting the CSUN admissions officials this semester will include Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.
Pierce College offers associate's degrees, mainly in the arts and sciences. There are also certificate programs in early childhood education, social services, dental hygienist, and others. at a date to be determined. Seja De Manzano said Mission College and College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. in Santa Clarita will host Instant Admissions Day in the spring semester. |
