VALENCIA STILL ROLLING YOUNGSTERS SPARK OFFENSE IN VICTORY VALENCIA 3, SAUGUS 1.

On an afternoon when Valencia's seven senior softball players were recognized for their achievements, it was the youngsters getting it done at the plate.

Moore followed through in the second inning with a blooper to center field that brought in Shipman after Shipman's hit to left field had scored pinch-runner Alyssa Garza. Garza had stepped in for senior Jessica Spigner, who was walked by Jacqueline Taylor.

Valencia improved to 27-1 overall and 9-0 in league play with one regular-season game remaining against Golden Valley of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  on Thursday. Saugus (14-16, 5-5) is tied with Canyon for third place and the league's final playoff berth. Canyon and Saugus split this season.

"We're not used to this, not making playoffs," Saugus coach Rich Perez said. "We figure we have five wins and that should be good enough to get us in, so we'll see what happens."
